PHY5001 Concepts in Astronomy

Course Description

Astronomy is about understanding of our origins, our place in the universe, and our future. To understand our universe we need to establish the Earth as our observing reference frame, and consider various astronomical phenomenon at all scales from planets, to stars to galaxies and the universe as a whole. This postgraduate course provides an accelerated approach to astronomical concepts designed to support the student’s Program specialisation.

This course offers an accelerated, application-based learning experience in astronomy concepts. Student’s will learn topics across all of astronomy in preparation for more advanced study as part of their postgraduate program. In particular there will modules focusing on observational, planetary, stellar and galactic astronomy.
